In an artificial lift–focused company, the Head of Completion and Well Intervention plays a mission-critical role in designing and executing well completions and interventions that maximize reservoir recovery through ESP and SRP systems. This position combines strategic leadership with deep technical expertise in artificial lift technologies, well integrity, and productivity enhancement.
Roles and Responsibilities:
-
Completion Engineering – ESP/SRP Focus
- Lead and supervise the design and execution of completion strategies optimized for Electric Submersible Pumps (ESP) and Sucker Rod Pumps (SRP).
- Ensure completions are engineered to integrate artificial lift requirements from day one of well design.
-
Well Intervention Operations
- Oversee well intervention campaigns (slickline, e-line, coiled tubing, pump replacements) to maintain or restore artificial lift performance.
- Manage diagnostic efforts to identify and resolve ESP/SRP failures or performance decline.
-
Artificial Lift Optimization
- Drive continuous improvement in artificial lift system performance through data analytics, failure analysis, and real-time monitoring.
- Collaborate with production and automation teams to refine lift efficiency and reduce downtime.
-
Technology Leadership and Evaluation
- Evaluate new technologies in ESP, SRP, VSDs, real-time monitoring, and smart completions.
- Recommend and implement fit-for-purpose solutions to address complex reservoir and production challenges.
-
Team Leadership and Technical Mentoring
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, supervisors, and field technicians.
- Ensure structured development in ESP/SRP diagnostics, design, and operational troubleshooting.
-
Well Integrity and Diagnostics
- Ensure implementation of well integrity protocols tailored for artificial lift completions.
- Oversee regular integrity tests, log evaluations, and proactive failure prediction initiatives.
-
Cross-functional Coordination
- Work closely with drilling, reservoir, production, and HSE departments to ensure a unified approach to well lifecycle planning and execution.
- Serve as the technical authority for artificial lift–related completions and interventions.
-
Project Planning and Budget Oversight
- Prepare realistic cost estimation for completions and intervention operations.
- Monitor cost performance, equipment utilization, and efficiency KPIs.
-
HSE and Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all operations involving ESP/SRP systems and interventions adhere strictly to company and industry HSE policies.
- Interface with regulatory authorities for audits, compliance, and reporting.
-
Reporting and Documentation
- Oversee the preparation of well completion reports, ESP/SRP performance summaries, and intervention close-out reports.
- Present technical findings and field results to executive and operational leadership.
In summary, this role is critical in aligning completion and intervention strategies with artificial lift excellence, driving safe, efficient, and high-performing well operations across the organization.
